Olga Lobo in Living Room

This photo was a present by the new owner of the house, Olga Lobo's grandson. Moving is an inevitable event in the human experience. It is the moment where we have to decide what to take with us and what to leave behind. It is an event that can come with pressure, externally and internally. It relates to your memories, and those memories include people and places. Moving underscores that things matter, and are a part of who you are and how you will be remembered. During the photo shoot, Ms. Lobo started to introduce more and more Surinamese things into the frame, thereby showing us who she is.

This is my 91 year old Surinamese grandmother sitting in her former living room, on the first floor of a double upper house. Her name is Olga Lobo (1928). This is the story of her having to move her things and memories.
