MC Hammer Doll
The doll’s designer is Black Perkins (1948). Born in racially segregated South Carolina, Louvenia (Kitty) Black Perkins grew up playing with white dolls gifted by her mother’s employers. When she became a lead designer at Mattel, she had the opportunity to dress the first Black Doll (1979). After this one many followed, including MC Hammer.
