Along the Borders of the Transvaal Neighborhood in Leiden

One of the neighborhoods that has experienced Leiden’s border change from up close is the Transvaal neighborhood. This neighborhood is now confined by the train tracks from The Hague to Amsterdam in the north, and the Rijn and Galgewater in the south and east, but throughout history it has had different borders as well. By means of this map, this story will shed some light on this history. It will take you along from these local borders to their boundless connection with the colony of the Dutch East Indies.
